Cheng Cheng Kung Issue

Cheng Cheng Kung Issue Cheng Cheng Kung Issue Cheng Cheng Kung Issue

In 1949 (Republic 38th Year), when the new currency was adopted in Taiwan, unused and unsuitable postage stamps were immediately converted into new face values to meet urgent requirements. At the same time, arrangements were made for the printing of new stamps in New Taiwan Dollar(s) unit. The design of the first ordinary issue postage stamp in the new currency is the portrait of a patriotic hero General Cheng Cheng Kung copied from a drawing kept in the Taiwan Provincial Museum (National Taiwan Museum, currently). These stamps bear his name “Yenping Prince Cheng Cheng Kung” inscribed under his portrait. Those of 20-cents and 50-cents denominations were issued from June 26, 1950, while the other 11 denominations were issued from September 26 of the same year.
