In an attempt to promote business development and to help the public gain better knowledge in the field of post, the Directorate General of Posts (DGP) established the Postal Museum on December 1, 1965. The museum, originally accommodated in the former office of the DGP in suburban Hsintien, formally opened to public on the 20th of March, 1966. For the convenience of the public, it moved to the current site and re-opened on October 10, 1984. The exhibition is divided into four sections located on different floors. They are Postal History Section on the 2nd and 3rd floors, Modern Postal Service Section on the 4th floor, Philately Section on the 5th floor and Special Exhibition Section on the 6th floor. In addition, there is a library specialized in Postal Service and Philately on the 7th floor. The Postal Library houses a collection of over 40,000 books as well as hundreds copies of periodicals. Its open-shelf service allows visitors to access material easily and everyone is welcome to use it.
